The flood situation in Odisha continues to remain critical, with hundreds of villages still marooned as several rivers across the state remain in spate. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will undertake an aerial survey of flood-affected districts, including Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur and Keonjhar, this morning. He will also review rescue, relief and restoration measures with senior officials.

 

The water level in the Hirakud reservoir has risen to 625.47 feet, with 22 spillway gates kept open to regulate inflow. While water levels in the Baitarani, Devi and Bhargavi rivers are gradually receding, the Salandi and Kushabhadra rivers continue to rise. Floodwaters have submerged villages, roads and agricultural fields in several districts, disrupting normal life. Schools in Bhadrak district have been closed today as a precautionary measure.

 

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 20 districts over the next 24 hours, predicting heavy rainfall. The IMD has also forecast fresh spells of rain across Odisha till the 6th of this month, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
