The depression over South Odisha is continuing to cause heavy rain across several parts of the state. Flood-like conditions have emerged in southern Odisha, with rivers rising and road communication disrupted in several districts. The system is likely to weaken further during the next twelve hours, but heavy rain is expected to continue in vulnerable areas.

 

Akashvani correspondent reports that in Malkangiri, several major bridges and roads are submerged, cutting off road communication with neighbouring districts and Andhra Pradesh. Water is flowing over bridges on National Highway 326, while landslides and uprooted trees have further disrupted connectivity. Disaster response teams are working round the clock to clear blocked roads.

 

In south Odisha, rivers are rising amid incessant rain, creating flood-like conditions. Five sluice gates of the Indravati Dam have been opened to release excess water. In north Odisha, many low-lying areas are under the threat of flooding due to rising rivers.

 

The government says there is no immediate threat from the Brahmani and Mahanadi. However, the Budhabalanga, Bansadhara, Naluha and Rushikulya rivers are in spate. The Bansadhara is above the danger level at Kashinagar. The depression is weakening over land, but the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain today in Malkangiri, Koraput and Kalahandi.
