Centre for Social Research Director Dr Ranjana Kumari invoked Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, stating that true national development is not possible without women’s progress.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Dr Kumari called for the immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill, demanding 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. She said women continue to face under-representation in Parliament despite constitutional guarantees of equality.
She urged all political parties to support the bill and avoid political roadblocks. Highlighting grassroots strength, she noted that over 14 lakh women are elected in local bodies, while representation in Parliament remains around 13.6%.
Concluding her remark, Dr Kumari said that the greater political representation of women would strengthen democracy and bring broader social change, urging that women should not be denied their rightful share any longer.
