Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, has announced that a new modern building will be constructed for the Government Regional Library in Guntur at a cost of around 20 crore rupees.
Speaking at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh today, Dr. Chandrasekhar said the library, established in 1915 during the British era, has served generations of students and readers. He said the existing building is old and needs to be replaced with a modern facility.
An MoU for the construction was signed today in the presence of the Union Minister and District Collector Sai Kanth Varma. The foundation stone will be laid shortly, while arrangements will be made to ensure that students can continue using the library during construction.
Dr. Chandrasekhar also paid tributes to freedom fighter and farmers’ leader Sardar Gouthu Latchanna on his 117th birth anniversary, recalling his lifelong service to the country, farmers and the common people.
