Delhi’s Special Executive Magistrate Court today has remanded Cockroach Janta Party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to five days of judicial custody, while another leader, Ajinkya Shinde, has been released on a personal bond. The three were detained by Delhi Police over allegations of attempting to enter Jantar Mantar a day after it was de-notified as a protest site.

According to police, the group allegedly scaled locked gates and barricades on October 13, carrying the national flag and raising slogans, before being intercepted by security personnel. An FIR has been registered against the three leaders and others on charges including unlawful assembly and disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant.

The leaders were initially taken to Jaffarpur Kalan police station and later shifted to Parliament Street Police Station in the early hours of today. CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh alleged that the leaders were not allowed to meet their lawyers till late at night.

The leaders had also been detained earlier after arriving in Delhi to protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar but were subsequently released by a court on furnishing bonds to maintain peace.
