Delhi BJP today lodged a complaint against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, SP MP Awadhesh Prasad and other concerned individuals for allegedly hurting Hindu religious sentiments in the Parliament complex yesterday. The BJP delegation led by New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj demanded registration of an FIR against the opposition leaders. Ms Swaraj alleged that the opposition has mocked the faith of Hindus, ridiculed Sanatan culture and insulted the saint community during the protest held near the Makar Dwar of the Parliament complex. Ms Swaraj asserted that such actions would not be tolerated.
The complainants stated that in a democratic system, freedom of expression cannot be used as a pretext to insult the revered symbols of any religion. The complainants asserted that the complaint is based not on hearsay but on publicly available audio-video evidence, providing sufficient grounds for the police to register an FIR and initiate an investigation. The delegation also urged the police to preserve CCTV footage, video recordings, media coverage, and other digital evidence to preserve immediately to prevent any destruction of evidence during the investigation. They also sought strict legal action against those found responsible.
