Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan today said that the government is making efforts to create two million professionals by building the necessary infrastructure, while creative economy reforms are helping protect producers from piracy. He was addressing at the valedictory function of International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir. The Minister said the festival is a translation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, who had invited filmmakers to shoot and make films in Kashmir in 2019.
Congratulating the Jammu and Kashmir Government for organising the festival, Dr. Murugan said the festival belongs to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and that the youth are proving that imagination knows no boundaries. Later Mr. Murugan also gave award for best film from J&K select section, Tasrufdaar (The Djinns of Kashmir).
Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Chanchal Kumar was also present on the occasion. He congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir Government for bringing together filmmakers and cinema professionals. He said Jammu and Kashmir has given iconic films to Indian cinema and hosting the festival has opened a new chapter in the history of the region. Chanchal Kumar said the Ministry is creating opportunities for young talent through platforms such as the WAVES Summit. Referring to the Film Bazaar, he said filmmakers from Jammu and Kashmir can benefit by connecting with buyers and the wider film market. He also mentioned the Indian Institute of Creative Technology being developed by the Ministry and invited the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to explore the film market and acquire new skills. He said the Ministry and the Jammu and Kashmir Government can work together to create more opportunities for young filmmakers and creators from the region.
