Country’s progress should not be measured merely by volume of production: MoS for Consumer Affairs, BL Verma

Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, B. L. Verma, today said that the country’s progress should not be measured merely by the volume of production but also by the quality, safety and reliability of the products and services it offers. Addressing the gathering during World Standards Day 2026 in New Delhi, Mr Verma said that standards are important not only for the industry but also for ensuring that quality standards reach every section of society. He said that awareness about quality standards has increased significantly in the country, and standards now play an important role in India’s economic growth and development. The Minister emphasised that the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat cannot be achieved without promoting indigenous products.
