Coal stocks at domestic power plants remain above 18 million tonnes since September 29

Coal stocks at domestic coal-based power plants have remained stable at above 18 million tonnes (MT) since the 29th of last month.

The Ministry of Coal said that coal stocks stood at 18.205 MT on the 10th of this month. It said the stabilisation reflected coal supplies keeping pace with daily consumption at power plants. Supplies to plants with critically low stocks are being closely monitored.

The Ministry said coal is being redistributed to vulnerable power stations according to their requirements to maintain adequate supplies and ensure uninterrupted power generation.

It also informed that an average of 469 rakes per day were loaded for the power sector during the first ten days of this month, compared with 426 rakes per day last month.

The Ministry continues to work in close coordination with Coal India Limited (CIL), Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), the Ministry of Railways and power utilities to ensure sustained coal evacuation and supply, thereby maintaining adequate coal stocks at thermal power plants.
