Bihar: Met Department issues yellow alert for rainfall in most parts of state for next 24 hours

In Bihar, the Met Department has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in most parts of the state for the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in some parts of South Bihar, with Sherghati town of Gaya district recording the highest rainfall.

Due to heavy rainfall in catchment areas of Nepal-originated rivers Kosi, Bagmati and Mahananda are flowing above the danger mark in several districts of the state. In Seemanchal region, Araria district is the most affected due to swelling of rivers.

Akashvani Correspondent reports that Araria district has been badly affected due to rising water levels. The tributaries of Mahananda River Parman, Kankai, Bakra, Nuna, Ratwa and Bhalui are flowing above the danger mark. Embankments, roads, culverts and approach roads have been badly damaged in Palasi, Kursakanta, Sikti and Jokihat blocks. The diversion has been swept away on Araria-Kishanganj-Siliguri road snapping surface connectivity with West Bengal. In Sikti block several houses have been inundated due to damage of the Araria-Pipra embankment. The Ganga, Gandak, and Bagmati are also showing rising trends due to continuous rainfall in their catchment areas.
