At least 12 killed in Israeli airstrike on a village in eastern Lebanon

At least 12 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a village in eastern Lebanon late yesterday. The strike targeted the Bekaa Valley region amid intensified attacks by Israel against the Hezbollah militant group.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had authorised stronger military action against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon.

While the Israeli military did not comment specifically on the latest strike, it said operations were aimed at Hezbollah infrastructure in eastern Lebanon.

Rescue workers said several bodies were recovered from the rubble after overnight strikes hit parts of southern and eastern Lebanon.

The escalation comes ahead of direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli military delegations scheduled in Washington in three days.

Hezbollah has continued attacks on Israeli troops in southern Lebanon and towns in northern Israel, saying it will keep fighting until Israel halts airstrikes and withdraws its forces from Lebanese territory.

The Lebanese government is hopeful that the upcoming talks, opposed by Hezbollah, could help pave the way for a ceasefire.
