India won the Women's Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier by defeating Thailand, 7-2 in the final of the tournament in Salalah, Oman. For India, Mariana Kujur scored two goals in the second and the eighth minutes. Dipi Monika Toppo in the seventh, Jyoti in the 10th and 27th minutes, Skipper Navjot Kaur in the 23rd minute, and Mahima Choudhary in the 29th minute scored goals.
Earlier in the day, the Indian women's team defeated Malaysia in the semi-final of the tournament by 9-5. Skipper Navjot Kaur slammed a hat-trick as India continued its impressive run at the tournament. With the win in the semi-final, India became the second Asian team after the hosts Oman to qualify for the Women's Hockey 5s World Cup to be held next year.
Thailand is the third team to qualify for the World Cup from Asia after defeating Indonesia in the other semifinal by 5-2 to make it to the final.
The inaugural edition of the Hockey 5s World Cup will be held in Muscat from the 24th to the 27th of January next year.
