The traditional Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed at the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple today in preparation for the annual Anivara Asthanam festival to be observed on July 17. The ritual is conducted four times a year before Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Brahmotsavam and Vaikuntha Ekadasi.
As part of the ceremony, the temple premises, including the sanctum surroundings, sub-shrines, kitchen, walls, ceilings and puja articles, were thoroughly cleansed. After the purification process, the temple was sprinkled with a fragrant sacred mixture prepared from sandalwood, turmeric, camphor, saffron and other aromatic ingredients. Special rituals and Naivedyam were then offered to the presiding deity before devotees were allowed for Sarva Darshan.
