Seven people were killed and 11 others injured in a private bus accident in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh this morning. The accident occurred near Chaluanj Mor at Bairagarh under the Tissa police station in the Churah Assembly constituency.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the accident took place at around 7:15 AM today, Saturday. Preliminary information suggests that the private bus was travelling from Bairagarh towards Chamba when it went off the road near Chaluanj Mor and fell onto another road below.
Six of the injured have been referred to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, Chamba, for further treatment.
Superintendent of Police, Chamba, Vijay Saklani said that immediately after receiving information about the accident, police personnel were rushed to the spot. Relief and rescue operations were launched after the police team reached the site.
The cause of the accident is being investigated. The identities of the seven people who lost their lives in the accident are yet to be ascertained. Teams from different departments have been deployed at the accident site to carry out search and rescue operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives due to a mishap in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. In a social media post, Mr Modi condoled the families who have lost their loved ones in the incident. He also wished for the swift recovery of those injured.
