World Zoonoses Day is being observed globally today to highlight diseases transmitted between animals and humans. These diseases pose significant threats to public health, animal health, and global health security.
In a social media post, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the one Health approach has emerged as a key pillar of India’s public health strategy. He added that guided by his vision of integrated and preventive healthcare, India is strengthening collaboration across human, animal, and environmental health sectors to build a more resilient and future-ready health system.
Mr Nadda highlighted that the Centre for One Health under the National Centre for Disease Control plays a pivotal role in addressing these challenges through the One Health approach, recognising the close connection between humans, animals, plants, and the environment. He further said that by fostering multisectoral collaboration and strengthening surveillance, prevention, and response systems, the Centre works to detect, prevent, and control zoonotic diseases, helping reduce the risk of future outbreaks.
On the occasion, he also urged citizens to reaffirm the commitment to the One Health approach and work together to protect the health of people, animals, and our shared environment for a safer, healthier future.
