Today is World Bicycle Day. The day is celebrated annually on June 3 to acknowledge the simple, affordable, reliable and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport, fostering environmental stewardship and health.
The day was adopted through a UN General Assembly resolution spearheaded by the Government of Turkmenistan, recognising the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle. The theme of this year is “Cycling for a Greener Future”. It highlights the bicycle’s role in cutting carbon emissions, combating traffic congestion, and promoting sustainable, healthy urban environments.
