At the World Athletics Under 20 Championships, India’s Mohammed Ashfaq broke the Under 20 national record in Eugene, United States today. With this win, Ashfaq paved his way to qualify for the men’s 400 metre semifinals. The 19-year-old Ashfaq clocked 45.81 seconds to finish second behind USA’s Jayden DeLeon in the first round heat 5 and fourth overall to make it to the semifinals.
In the men’s high jump, India’s Basant qualified for the final with a jump of 2.14 metre, finishing fifth in qualification Group A. India’s Amanat Kamboj finished sixth in women’s discus throw finals with a personal best effort. He bettered his own previous national record of 46.05 seconds, set earlier this season in April.
