WHO Director-General calls for stronger health cooperation, innovation and sustainable financing

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called for stronger health cooperation, innovation, resilience and sustainable financing. In a Social Media post, Dr. Tedros said the four themes of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit are directly relevant to global health. He urged countries to strengthen primary healthcare, surveillance, early warning systems and local production to build resilience.

On innovation, he called for wider use of science, digital health and artificial intelligence, ensuring their benefits reach all sections of society. He also stressed cross-border cooperation, including finalising the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing annex to the WHO Pandemic Agreement. Dr. Tedros further called for sustainable health financing and a stronger global health architecture, urging BRICS leaders to strengthen preparedness, accountability and long-term commitment.
