West Bengal Postal Circle has begun the National Postal Week celebrations from today on the occasion of World Post Day. The theme for this year’s week-long programme is “World Post Day: One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities.”
Chief Postmaster General of West Bengal, Ashok Kumar, said special emphasis is being laid on modernising postal services, the use of technology and citizen-centric services.
Addressing the inaugural function at Town Hall in Kolkata, he said five Next Generation Post Offices have already been launched in the state. An agreement has also been signed with the state government to facilitate e-KYC under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and deliver cards to beneficiaries at their doorsteps.
Initiatives have also been taken to expand Aadhaar services, provide faster Speed Post services and disseminate information about solar energy projects through the postal network.
