West Bengal poll campaign heats up with top leaders addressing meetings

As the day of the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections draws closer, political campaigning is intensifying. Senior BJP leader Amit Shah is scheduled to hold several public meetings in North Bengal today. He will attend a rally at Lebong ground (around noon) in Darjeeling town, followed by a meeting at Rajganj of Jalpaiguri district.
 
Later in the afternoon, Amit Shah will join a rally at the Falakata Mill road ground in Alipurduar. He is scheduled to join a public meeting at the Kalibari RMC ground in Tufanganj in Coochbehar. 
 
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Union Minister Smriti Irani will also participate in a number of programmes in the state today. 
 
Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee has a series of campaign programmes scheduled today. She will address a public meeting in Islampur of North Dinajpur district at around 1:15 PM. She is also slated to participate in two consecutive roadshows in Siliguri and in Chalsa.
