West Bengal: Kolkata to get Water Metro Project as fast and alternative public transport

Kolkata is set to become the country’s 18th city to be connected with the Water Metro service. After a meeting with the Union Ministry of Shipping, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that after Kochi which was 17th city, the Centre has now given policy approval for Kolkata’s Water Metro project. The system will provide a fast, eco-friendly, and alternative public transport link across the Hooghly River. The Chief Minister said apart from this, work on renovating and beautifying the ghats along the Ganga is also under progress. Plans have been taken to modernize Bagbazar, Ahiritola, Shovabazar, Mallikghat, Babughat, Ramkrishnapur, and Bandhaghat.
He stated that work on some of these ghats is already nearly complete, while the rest are targeted to be finished before Durga Puja.
The Chief Minister further added that the focus will not only be on infrastructure development but also on preserving historical landmarks associated with Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sarada, and Bengal’s heritage.
