The West Bengal government has approved the enhancement of monthly financial assistance under Social Welfare Pension Schemes for Old Age, Widow, and Disability Pensions from 1,000 rupees to 1,500 rupees, starting from the 1st of next month.

 

In an official order released yesterday, the government said that the enhanced assistance will be disbursed to all eligible beneficiaries through the existing Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.

 

Moreover, the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari-led BJP government also enhanced the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) monthly pensions from 1 thousand rupees to 1 thousand 5 hundred rupees. Under this, disbursements for the beneficiaries of the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme and Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme will be made via DBT starting 1st of August, 2026. 

 

In a social media post, BJP’s in-charge of the National Information and Technology Department, Amit Malviya, said that the marginalised communities of West Bengal were left behind by administrative apathy for years. He said the BJP government in West Bengal is driving a profound shift toward meaningful, inclusive growth, and the state’s decision to raise the social welfare pension amounts by 50 per cent is a clear manifestation of this vision.
