The Government of West Bengal has launched a special campaign to inspect restaurants, sweet shops, and eateries across the state. 13 food processing units have been closed, licenses of five restaurants suspended, and six purified-water bottling plants shut down by the state government of West Bengal during a special vigilance and food safety campaign.

The drive is being conducted by the State Food Safety Department in coordination with municipalities and other departments. The State Health Minister, Dr. Saradwat Mukhopadhyay, informed that as part of this campaign, a total of 1,730 eateries have been raided, with irregularities detected in 1,525 cases due to substandard hygiene issues. In many instances, expired and rotten food was found by government officials.
