The West Bengal government today tabled 28 long-pending reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General, or CAG, in the State Assembly, fulfilling an earlier commitment. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta presented the reports, which had remained pending during the tenure of the previous government. He announced that a special session of the Assembly will be convened to hold a detailed discussion on their findings.

 

The Finance Minister said the reports would provide a true picture of the state’s financial condition and explain the reasons behind the state’s financial deficit of more than ₹8 lakh crore.

 

The reports cover a wide range of sectors, including the state’s finance accounts, audits of Panchayati Raj institutions, government undertakings, health infrastructure and healthcare services, land management in tribal areas, implementation of the Samagra Shiksha programme, Integrated Child Development Services, public sector undertakings, appropriation accounts, and several performance audit reports.
