West Bengal government steps up action against illegal infiltrators along Bangladesh border

Government of West Bengal is taking all possible steps to make Bengal free of illegal infiltrators. Soon after taking office, Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari introduced the “Detect-Delete-Deport” policy. Under this plan, infiltrators are being detained and pushed back to Bangladesh after completing all legal formalities.

Till the completion of legal formalities, infiltrators are kept in Holding centers.  In Swarupnagar, North 24 Parganas, nearly 50 Bangladeshi infiltrators were reported at the Hakimpur check post today, seeking to return home. Three holding centres in the area now house around 350 people awaiting deportation.

Meanwhile, another holding centre is being built in the Siliguri-Matigara-Naxalbari region. Security has been tightened along border areas, and surveillance is being stepped up to identify infiltrators more effectively.
