The Government of West Bengal is set to launch a major social welfare initiative, the ‘Annapurna Yojana’, today. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will formally inaugurate the scheme.
In the first phase, beneficiaries will start receiving 3,000 rupees directly into their bank accounts from today. It is initially estimated that nearly two crore women will benefit from this scheme.
At Nabanna, the inauguration ceremony will take place at 12:30 PM, attended by Minister Agnimitra Paul of the Department of Women, Child Development, and Social Welfare. Simultaneously, the inauguration program will be conducted virtually across all blocks, municipalities, and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area.
The Chief Minister’s program will be connected via video conference to every block and municipality in the state. District Magistrates have been instructed to make the necessary arrangements to ensure smooth execution of the event.
Immediately after the inauguration, 100 selected Annapurna Yojana beneficiaries in each block and municipality will be handed approval letters. Similarly, 100 beneficiaries in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area will also receive these letters.
Reports indicate that the list of beneficiaries has been finalised based on recommendations from the concerned Sub-Divisional Officers, BDOs, and municipal authorities. Beneficiaries have been given 90 days to register under this scheme. Women aged between 25 and 60 years will be eligible for this benefit.
