In West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Debangshu Panda has registered a landslide victory in the repoll for the Falta Assembly constituency. Mr. Panda won the seat by over 1.09 lakh votes. Falta seat was widely regarded as stronghold of Trinamool Congress.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Shambhuanth Kurmi finished in second place with over forty thousand six hundred votes. Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla came third and Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan was pushed to the fourth position with over seven thousand seven hundred votes.
Election Commission had ordered a repoll in Falta following allegations of large-scale malpractice during the polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections. The repolling was held on 21st of this month.
The BJP had won 207 seats in the recent assembly polls and formed its first government in the state with Suvendu Adhikari as Chief Minister.
