Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh today emphasized that technology and tradition must progress together to ensure the long term growth of the handloom sector.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Centre of Excellence in Handloom Technology at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, the Minister said that this center will play a pivotal role in bridging traditional crafts and modern technology, enhancing weavers’ productivity, promoting innovation and connecting their products to new markets. He added that the center will support research, skill development and innovation, enabling artisans and weavers to adopt modern techniques without compromising India’s rich weaving heritage. The Minister further underlined the need to develop new and sustainable fibres to meet changing consumer preferences and strengthen the handloom sector.
On the occasion, Mr Singh also launched five flagship initiatives, including handloom 4.0, handloom x, handloom e-vidya, Kalagriha handloom studio and Threads of Valour.
