WB: Railways orders inquiry of train-school van collision,  ex-gratia of 10 lakh announced for families of deceased

 
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has expressed deep sorrow over the school van accident near Karnasubarna railway station in West Bengal today. He announced an ex-gratia payment of 10 lakh rupees for the family of each deceased individual in connection with the collision between the school van and the passenger train. Three people were killed, including two school children, when the Nimtita-Katwa passenger train hit a school pool car and a cyclist. Five injured individuals are currently being treated at the Berhampore Motor College Hospital.
The General Manager of Eastern Railway has ordered a high-level inquiry committee to be headed by the Principal Chief Safety Officer. High-level officials from the Operating, Engineering, and Signal and Telecommunications departments will be part of the committee. Meanwhile, the Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Howrah rushed to the spot with a team of 10 senior officials.
Gateman Anup Karmakar has been arrested, and a PWI Kaushik Mal, has been suspended following the incident.
