Vice President CP Radhakrishnan today said yoga can help improve physical and mental well-being, concentration, self-awareness and mental balance amid the growing stress of modern life. The Vice President was addressing the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gordhandas Seksaria College of Yoga and Cultural Synthesis at Kaivalyadhama at Lonavala in Maharashtra.
Mr. Radhakrishnan appreciated the institution’s 75-year contribution to yoga education, research and cultural studies. He said Kaivalyadhama founder Swami Kuvalayananda laid the foundation for the scientific study of yoga in 1924. He said yoga is not merely a tradition of one generation. He described it as a heritage that must be preserved for future generations. He said yoga has gained global recognition through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives and the United Nations’ declaration of 21st of June as the International Day of Yoga.
The Vice President said true progress means embracing modern technology and development while preserving good traditions and accepting appropriate changes. He urged students to bring the values learned through yoga into their daily lives. These include discipline, concentration, patience and self-awareness.
Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, former Union Minister and Chairman of Kaivalyadhama Global Suresh Prabhu, CEO Subodh Tiwari, teachers, staff and students were present on the occasion.
