Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has said that the strength of any economy lies in the contribution of its Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. Addressing the MSME Day 2026 – Udyami Bharat event in New Delhi today, he said that in India, the MSME sector reflects the courage and entrepreneurial spirit of first-generation entrepreneurs.
The Vice President noted that the sector contributes nearly 50 per cent of the country’s total exports while consistently maintaining high-quality standards. He said the MSME sector has emerged as one of the strongest pillars in India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Vice-President urged the Ministry of MSME to encourage universal registration of MSMEs, saying better registration would improve data quality and enable more effective policy formulation based on the actual needs of the sector.
Mr Radhakrishnan said cost-effectiveness is essential in today’s global business environment. He urged businesses to make their products more cost-effective without compromising on quality. He also called upon entrepreneurs to adopt modern technology to enhance productivity, production and quality. Referring to this year’s United Nations theme, Human-Centred Entrepreneurship in an AI-Driven Future, he said technological change should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a threat.
Addressing the gathering, Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said the Union Budget reflects the government’s priority and commitment to the MSME sector. He said the government remains committed to building an ecosystem where every entrepreneur has an equal opportunity to innovate, grow and contribute to nation-building. The Minister added that the country’s focus remains on formalisation, digital empowerment, easier access to finance, stronger market linkages, technology adoption and innovation-led growth.
On the occasion, the Vice President launched a series of digital platforms, portals and publications aimed at empowering MSMEs across the country. These include the PMEGP 2.0 Portal, SAMADHAAN 2.0 Portal, PMS Portal, MSME Global Mart 2.0 Portal, MSME Testing Portal and MSME Idea Hackathon 6.0.
