Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has called upon graduating students to use their knowledge, skills and innovation for nation-building, guided by the principle of ‘Nation First’. Addressing the 22nd Convocation of S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology at Kattankulathur near Chennai, the Vice President said India’s youth have a vital role to play in the country’s journey towards Viksit Bharat by 2047. Recalling India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Radhakrishnan said India supplied vaccines to more than 100 countries, demonstrating its commitment to global welfare and humanity.
He highlighted the country’s expansion in higher education since 2014 and noted the growing participation of women in higher education. He also emphasised the importance of emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, quantum technologies, semiconductors, robotics and biotechnology. The Vice President said research achieves its highest purpose when it serves society. He emphasised that research is truly valuable when it produces meaningful results, creates a positive impact on society and translates into practical benefits for people.
Mr Radhakrishnan urged the students to stay away from drugs and substance abuse and choose discipline, purpose and excellence. He called upon them to uphold constitutional values, respect diversity and contribute to the nation’s progress, security and prosperity. He urged them to carry forward the Indian values of Gyaan, Kartavya, Karuna and Seva – knowledge, duty, compassion and service.
