Uttar Pradesh government steps up relief and rescue operations as floods affect 25 districts

Amid the worsening flood situation in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has stepped up relief and rescue operations to assist affected families. At least 25 districts are currently affected by flooding following heavy rains and the release of water from dams.
 
According to the state relief commissioner’s Office, around 8,000 people were shifted to safe locations on Thursday alone, taking the total number of evacuated people to around 21 thousand. Affected people are also being provided safe shelter, with around 3 thousand individuals currently staying in relief camps.
 
Keeping in view the risk of disease outbreaks during floods, the Health Department has also remained fully active. A total of 1,165 medical teams have been deployed in affected areas. 
 
Meanwhile Intermittent rain continues in many districts of the state including the capital Lucknow. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain with thunder and lightning in the eastern and western parts of the state in the next five days.
