US Vice President Kamala Harris officially declares her candidacy for US presidential elections

US Vice President Kamala Harris officially declared her candidacy for the US presidential elections today by signing the necessary forms. In a social media post, Ms Harris emphasised that in November, her people-powered campaign will win. She further reiterated that she would work hard to earn every vote.

The upcoming US presidential election on November 5 will see Ms Harris as the Democratic nominee, following US President Joe Biden’s endorsement. Former US President Barack Obama also publicly endorsed Ms Harris for the US presidential post after Joe Biden exited the race recently. Mr Obama said he and former US First Lady Michelle Obama will do everything they can to make sure Ms Harris wins the presidential election.

US Vice President Kamala Harris received endorsements from over 40 former Justice Department officials after Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election. They praised her experience and viewed her as a safeguard for democracy. Harris’s prosecutorial background and longstanding respect for the rule of law were noted as key advantages.

NBC News reported that Joe Biden’s move in favour of Kamala Harris triggered a letter signed by over 40 former Justice Department officials across different administrations endorsing Harris, including notable figures like Loretta Lynch, Sally Yates, and John McKay.
