US President Donald Trump said his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Russia and Ukraine to push for a peace deal aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, President Trump said the two negotiators will assess whether progress can be made between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
President Trump said his administration would present an idea for peace and stressed that the heavy military losses make a settlement urgent. The visits are part of Washington’s wider efforts to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table and end the conflict.
In a social media post, the Ukrainian President said the US delegation is expected to visit Moscow first and Kyiv next. He said Ukraine will ensure their safe travel and has called on Russia to avoid air strikes during the talks.
