The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the framework related to the One Nation, One Election proposal concluded its three-day consultation meeting in Lucknow today. On the final day, the committee held discussions with vice-chancellors and directors of various universities and higher educational institutions in Uttar Pradesh, along with experts in law and political science. It also interacted with Padma awardees, representatives of civil society, and prominent members of the media.
The committee said that the suggestions and opinions received during the consultations would be examined in the next stages of its deliberations before finalising its recommendations. Speaking to the media after the meeting, JPC Chairman P. P. Chaudhary said the committee has so far visited 10 states and received several important suggestions from people representing different sectors. He said the committee would place before Parliament only those recommendations that are in the national interest.
