The Uttar Pradesh government has enhanced disaster relief compensation by doubling the ex-gratia amount for families of those who lose their lives in natural disasters and increasing assistance for crop losses by 25 to 30 per cent. The revised compensation rates are expected to benefit more than 10 lakh farmers across the state.
The enhanced assistance covers losses reported between 1 April and 4 November. Under the revised guidelines of the State and National Disaster Response Funds, compensation for families of natural disaster victims has been increased from four lakh to eight lakh rupees.
Assistance for crop losses has also been enhanced. Farmers in irrigated areas will now receive 22,000 rupees per hectare, compared to the earlier 17,000 rupees. For rain-fed areas, compensation has been increased from 8,500 to 11,000 rupees per hectare.
Compensation for perennial crops and agroforestry has been raised to 30,000 rupees per hectare, while assistance for removing silt from agricultural land has been increased to 23,000 rupees per hectare.
The government has also enhanced compensation for livestock and poultry losses, providing greater financial support to farmers and livestock owners affected by natural calamities.
