The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed senior IPS officer Rajeev Krishna as the state’s new Director General of Police. With this appointment, he becomes the first permanent police chief of the state since 2022. Mr. Krishna, a 1991-batch IPS officer, had been serving as the acting DGP since May last year after succeeding Prashant Kumar.
He is also serving as Director General of the Vigilance Establishment. With nearly three years of service remaining before his retirement in June 2029, Mr. Krishna will now head the country’s largest police force.
The last regular DGP of Uttar Pradesh was Mukul Goel, who was removed from the post in 2022. Since then, the state has had four acting police chiefs.
During his three-decade-long career, Mr. Krishna has held several key assignments, including as SP and SSP in Mathura, Etawah, Agra, Noida and Lucknow.
