In US, state of Hawaii has declared a statewide emergency to support preparations for the potential impacts of Hurricane Lowell. The National Hurricane Center said Lowell has strengthened back into a Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of around 240 kilometres per hour.
The storm is currently located about 985 kilometres south of Lihue, Hawaii, and is expected to approach the western Hawaiian Islands early next week.
Weather impacts, including high surf and heavy rainfall, could extend hundreds of miles from the hurricane’s centre. The emergency proclamation allows state and county agencies to more quickly mobilise personnel, equipment and other resources as Hawaii continues its recovery from Tropical Cyclone Lala.
