The United Nations has warned that Sudan is on the brink of a full-scale civil war after an air strike on a residential area killed nearly two dozen civilians. The fierce clashes between rival generals continued relentlessly in the capital of Khartoum yesterday. The conflict could destabilise the entire region as per the United Nations. According to reports, 22 civilians were killed and many were injured in Omdurman city from an air strike on Saturday. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the air strike. He called for a cease and urged both sides to abide by their obligations under the international humanitarian and human rights law to protect civilians.
After nearly three months of war between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary, the air strike is the latest incident to provoke outrage. More than 3,000 people have been killed and over six thousand injured in the clashes so far.
Meanwhile, Egypt has said that it would host a summit on July 13 to discuss ways to end the conflict.
