Union Minister of State of Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said that India has demonstrated to the world that environmental conservation and modern development are not two separate paths but are complementary to each other.
He added that as India moves forward with the resolve to become a developed nation by 2047, the government’s top priority is to make cities and villages green, clean, sustainable, and livable.
Addressing the World Habitat Day Celebrations in New Delhi today, he highlighted that in recent years, India has accorded the highest priority to environmental balance alongside human dignity at the core of its policies.
Mr Sahu stated that the government has not merely formulated policies and schemes but has transformed them into a broad-based mass movement.
He underlined the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global message of Lifestyle for Environment and said that it has today carved out a unique identity across the world.
World Habitat Day is marked on the first Monday of October each year and is recognised by the United Nations as an occasion to reflect on the state of towns and cities and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter.
The theme of this year is Adequate Housing for All, drawing attention to the policies, partnerships and practical solutions to turn this right into a reality.
