Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal today said, crores of trees are being planted across the country in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for environmental balance. Mr Sonowal was speaking at a tree plantation programme at Natun Nagar Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Agartala, Tripura.

He stressed the importance of large-scale afforestation in combating pollution. Mr Sonowal said the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, which encourages citizens to plant a tree in honour of their mothers, is key to building a cleaner and greener India. He also planted a sapling at the school and urged people from all sections of society to actively participate in plantation drives.
