Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 4,399 days of service as India’s elected leader, surpassing the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru, have been marked by far-reaching transformation.
Writing an article in an English daily, Mr Goyal said that after the Government led by PM Modi came into power, India witnessed the longest period in its history during which the welfare of the poor and the common man remained at the core of every policy initiative of the government. He added that Mr Modi has been on a mission to expand welfare, opportunity, and access to essential services for all citizens. He noted that the Modi government ensured free foodgrains for over 810 million people, enabled financial inclusion through 580 million Jan Dhan bank accounts, and provided tap water connections to 160 million households and assured free treatment of 120 million families through Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Mr Goyal said that the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative has reinforced the importance of the girl child’s education and well-being. He highlighted that the government also increased the minimum support price for farmers and created opportunities for young Indians through Flagship initiatives such as Make in India and Startup India.
Further, the Minister underlined that before 2014, India was widely regarded as one of the world’s Fragile Five economies, but now the country is the world’s fastest-growing major economy. Mr Goyal asserted that the true significance of Prime Minister Modi’s historic milestone lies not in the number of days served, but in the scale of change delivered.
