Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today said that ​Indian medical value tourism has huge potential to drive economic growth, generate employment, and earn international goodwill. The Minister was addressing a HealthCare and Wellness Expo, Sanjeevani 2026 in New Delhi.

Mr Goyal said that the event is bringing to the fore the potential that India holds in serving global healthcare requirements through its robust medical ecosystem. He stressed that India must maintain high standards, ethics, integrity, deal with care, compassion, upholding the traditional ethos of Atithi Devo Bhava. The Minister said that ​the nation must establish a high quality benchmark for global healthcare delivery through transparency and patient-centric care.

​Mr Goyal urged the industry to work as collaborator to make the entire process seamless, to ensure that India has a world-leading medical value travel ecosystem. Mr Goyal emphasized that 35 lakh patients have benefited from Indian healthcare services in the last seven years. He added, the nation must scale its target to serve over 10 million international patients annually.

Highlighting India’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Goyal said the country assured medicine and equipment to anyone in need by running round-the-clock fast-track helplines and airlifting critical medical supplies to over 100 countries. He underlined that India did not profiteer at the cost of other nations’ distress and consistently provided vaccines and essential drugs free of charge or at minimal cost to developing countries. He added that even export restrictions during the pandemic were implemented to prevent stock hoarding by unscrupulous traders and wealthy nations, thereby ensuring equitable global access.
