Union Minister Piyush Goyal holds talks with Japanese financial institutions to boost investment in India

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today held discussions with executives from Japan’s leading financial institutions to boost long-term investment and strengthen India-Japan economic ties. Representatives from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), the Development Bank of Japan, Mizuho, Morgan Stanley, Nomura and Nippon Life discussed investment opportunities in India.

Mr. Goyal highlighted the strength and resilience of the Indian economy, noting that India recorded 7.7 per cent growth last year despite global uncertainties and is working toward becoming a $30 trillion economy by 2047. He said significant opportunities exist for Japanese firms in sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.

The discussions come as India and Japan seek to mobilise 10 trillion yen in Japanese private investment in India over the next decade. The meeting also explored GIFT City’s potential as a gateway for international capital and greater cross-border investment between India and Japan.
