Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the modernised Marine Museum at the Fish Survey of India, Visakhapatnam on Monday. More than 200 varieties of fish and other marine products are preserved in this museum.
The Minister also held a review meeting with officials and stakeholders of the fisheries industry. During the review, the representatives of various industries from the public and private sectors requested the minister to support the fisheries industry in matters of customs duty, infrastructure development, etc. They also brought to the notice of the minister that India is unable to compete with other countries like Vietnam and China as a value-additional facility for marine products is not available in India. They also highlighted that Vietnam is purchasing sea products from India and processing the same for value addition and then exporting the same to other countries like the USA. Responding to these, the minister asked them to come up with a detailed proposal.
Rajyasabha Member Shri GVL Narasimha Rao, Director General of FSI Dr. Jaya Bhaskaran, and Chief Officer of FSI Shri D. Bhamireddy have also participated in the programme.
