Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari conferred the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak to 12 rat miners for their exceptional courage and selfless service during the Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Operation. The awards were presented at an investiture ceremony in New Delhi. Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gadkari said, the Silkyara tunnel collapse was one of the most challenging rescue operations in recent years. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi closely monitored the developments and ensured that all possible resources were mobilised for the safe evacuation of the trapped workers. He said, the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak is a well-deserved recognition of their extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to saving human lives.
