Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia says India’s telecom sector has transformed over the past decade

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that India’s telecom and digital sectors have witnessed remarkable transformation over the past decade and has emerged on the global stage.
 
Addressing a press conference at the India Mobile Congress in New Delhi, Mr Scindia said that India has also become the fifth country in the world to develop its own indigenous 4G stack. He said the cost of one gigabyte of data has declined from 268 rupees to less than eight rupees. Mr Scindia said that India aims to double its 5G user base from 550 million to one billion by 2030. 
 
The Minister highlighted that India has witnessed the world’s fastest 5G rollout. Mr Scindia added that India accounts for 49 per cent of the world’s real-time digital payment transactions. The Minister said that the last decade focused on expanding networks and increasing connectivity, and the next decade will focus on the utilisation of these networks. He said India had earlier depended on imported telecom equipment and foreign technologies
