Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh reviewed various initiatives and development aspects of the textile, handloom, handicrafts and sericulture sectors in Andhra Pradesh during a meeting yesterday.
Officials from the Ministry of Textiles, the Andhra Pradesh government, the Central Silk Board and allied departments participated in the meeting. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, Mr Singh highlighted the vast potential of the textile and sericulture sectors, noting emerging opportunities in new-age fibre production from newly identified plant resources and their industrial applications. He said initiatives by both the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government are creating new avenues to strengthen the textile industry.
Emphasising innovation, technology adoption, value addition and sustainable development, the Minister expressed confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s growing capabilities in these sectors.
Speaking at the meeting, Central Silk Board Member Secretary and CEO P. Sivakumar highlighted opportunities in diversified sericulture by-products and stressed the need for stronger collaboration among scientists, farmers, entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders for sustainable growth.
A presentation on “India: A Global Textiles Hub” outlined key initiatives under the Union Budget 2026, Bharat Tex Global Textile Expo, and the Textile Export Vision 2030, along with strategies to boost India’s global competitiveness in textiles and silk.
