On the occasion of World Lion Day today, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav has said that India’s success in conserving the Asiatic Lion is a proud testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to wildlife and biodiversity. In a social media post, he said that from protecting critical habitats to strengthening conservation efforts, the country has demonstrated that development and nature conservation can move forward together.

Mr Yadav highlighted that the Asiatic Lion population in the country has increased from 523 in 2015 to 891 in 2025. He emphasised that this growth reflects the dedication of the forest officials, conservationists, local communities and all those working tirelessly to protect this magnificent species. The Minister also urged everyone to reaffirm the resolve to safeguard the natural heritage and ensure that the roar of the Asiatic Lion continues to resonate for generations to come.
